Antidecubitus mattresses

The good mattress is vital to good sleep; its function is to keep the body in the most comfortable position. This implies that it should feature support, pressure distribution and a good micro climate.

A baby needs a mattress to be soft enough to sink in and get support, but not so soft as it envelopes the baby and bends its spine. Ideally, the mattress should be so soft that when the baby lies on its back, it would need no pillow for the head.

As the child grows, it will need more support and stability, and eventually the need of a little pillow for the head will show. The mattress should have a better weight-supporting capacity.

For an adult at good health, the mattress could be quite firm and yield strong support. However, putting a soft overlay-mattress on top will give better pressure distribution and better sleep (reduced need for repositioning).

Adults’ need for head pillows are individual.
