In 1967 John Olger Furnes and his wife Randi founded the company Furnes Industri. The first few years the production took place in their own home. John’s training was within the design and manufacturing of clothing. The particular sense for details and accuracy necessary there, he took with him into the cushion business, and soon Furnes Industri was renowned for high quality, functional solutions and keen innovation. These assets have since been the hallmarks of the company.

In 1972 the company moved into a new factory building with all new machinery and production lines. In 1981 the production area was doubled and a new production line was installed.
Several improvements have since been made to the company, like spacious, light and airy production rooms. Production is continuously scrutinized for functionality. Maintenance of both buildings and machinery follows set schedules. All departments are both technically and organizationally perfect. Our own R & D dept. secures the lead on competition as do patents and registered methods and other assets.

As part of the new market strategy, the company changed its name in 2002 to VITAL BASE AS, and strengthened the focus on developing and manufacturing products for the health care sector.  WonderHip is one such product.
